Chemical Reactions
A broad range of chemical reactions is supported at Fine Organics Limited.
Historically the company has focused on handling hazardous materials and reactions such as chlorination, bromination, hydrogenation and oxidation. A particular expertise is sulphur chemistry, where bulk carbon disulphide is used routinely and hydrogen sulphide gas is supplied to plant from 600 kg cylinders.
Grignard reactions are run at large scale (> 100kg Magnesium per batch) with Diethyl Ether, Tetrahydrofuran and Methyl t-Butyl ether as solvents.
Diazotisation reactions have been run at 9m³ scale with a variety of downstream processes including coupling, reduction and Balz-Schiemann fluorination.
Although by no means comprehensive, the following examples demonstrate a unique breadth of chemical experience on a commercial scale:
- Alkylation
- Asymmetric synthesis
- Balz-Schiemann Fluorination
- Biocatalysis
- Carbonylation / Formylation
- Diazotisation
- Diborane reduction
- Grignard reaction
- Halogenation
- Hydrogenation
- Low temperature capability to (-85°C)
- Organometallic chemistry
- Organosulfur chemistry
- Organoboranes
- Ozonolysis
- Oxidation & reduction technologies
- Photohalogenation
- Suzuki- & Heck-type coupling
- Thiophosgenation
